Most of the True Business Ownership Delegation Plan value was in getting us to stop and really look at things. As a business owner, I could see which things I should off-load. The True Business Ownership Delegation Plan verified we needed another person, especially when I and my second-in-command saw that we each worked 1.5 positions! It also was good therapy! It got us talking about and made us more aware of our business.

WHAT IS the TRUE BUSINESS OWNERSHIP DELEGATION PLAN?
A small business changes only when the business owner changes. Change starts with the business owner. The company the business owner has today is a result of the mindset s/he had yesterday; today’s mindset will create the company s/he will own tomorrow. We hold these beliefs at Rita Coco Consulting and we ask our clients to consider owning the same belief system because we have seen the change in companies created through a mindset shift.
The True Business Ownership (TBO) Delegation Plan service gives business owners and their partners the opportunity to design their own positions for the first time in their ownership of the company.
- They get to choose the leadership and ownership tasks.
- They set the amount of time they are willing to spend completing these tasks.
- They decide how and where to spend their remaining time.
Using the owner’s position map, we work through how the entire company needs to change to support the relationship they chose to have with their company. This includes what will get delegated to whom by when and under what conditions.

Results of True Business Ownership Delegation Plan
Business owners who have gone through this process have literally felt the weight lifting off their shoulders. It is their first taste of freedom and for many it is just the beginning. It is amazing to witness (and we are privilege to be part of) the shift that happens to the business owner and the entire personnel. For most everyone this is a positive shift. Sometimes the wrong people on the bus finally decide to leave, and yes, sometimes a key person may feel that it is time to move on. All this is good because now there is more transparency in the organization.
True Business Ownership is not just a change in the owner but also in the culture. The owner asks the staff to be more accountable and rewards them for their own mindset shifts. More standards come into play with more dependency on processes and procedures. Although the company is running as a tighter ship, the atmosphere is more relaxed because everyone is accountable and pulling their own weight. Employees can be counted on and can count on others. All of this does not happen overnight. We have developed a True Business Ownership Solution for the owner who knows they are ready. Please give us a call to learn more!
Rita’s tip for thinking out-of-the-box about
True Business Ownership Delegation Plan
Definitions of True Business Ownership vary, but there is one common theme across consultants who use this term. Most are measuring how much time the owner spends being an owner, usually calculated by the ratio between time as an employee verses time spent as a business owner. The goal of any True Business Ownership transformation is to move the business owner out of employee responsibilities and into ownership responsibilities. That means thinking of delegation and planning for it. Most owners have spent so much time owning a job (aka working as an employee) that they have little knowledge and skill on how to lead their company as its business owner. In True Business Ownership circles, you may hear the question: Do you own a job or do you own a company? The question can be a wakeup call to owners who have been struggling to get to the next level in their business but seem stuck because they can’t escape their employee role.
Delegation is key to transforming your business and your relationship to it. Most owners will fail to delegate because there is a process to delegation. Keep that in mind or else you will abdicate instead of delegate – you will tell your employee the responsibilities you are delegating, and when that employee does not perform your former responsibilities at the level of quality you performed them, you will take back the tasks. Plan your delegation!
