Out of each phase in her career, Rita culled building blocks to create her True Business Ownership business model. She repurposed her job and business experiences into useful TBO skills and knowledge. Each building block is the answer to Why chose Rita Coco Consulting as your business coach and consultant.
1974. Rita started her career as a 7th grade science teacher. For 6 years, she motivated students and closed learning gaps.
TBO BUILDING BLOCK: Rita relies on her college and teaching experiences every day when she creates different exercises to instruct entrepreneurs on how to adapt to their new TBO roles and responsibilities.
1980. Rita switched careers and became a software engineer trainer. She carried her classroom skills into her first engineering firm and taught programming and language for 6 years. She became the Principal Investigator of Ada Programming and Environment, learning how to select and integrate programming tools into business environments. She championed an Ada environment throughout a GTE division and continued to advocate and implement programming environments at Raytheon and Digital Equipment Corporation.
TBO BUILDING BLOCK: Using her knowledge as a software engineer, Rita continues to develop her TBO environment which helps her clients restructure their people, processes and tools in order to sell and profit more by working less.
1990. Rita founded Rita Coco Consulting, a Corporate Training Consultation business. The next year, she completed her masters in Individual and Organizational Development. For 23 years, Rita consulted with Fortune 100 and 500 companies providing solutions to improve individual, group, and organizational effectiveness and efficiency. The majority of projects were revenue-generating or cost-saving strategic business initiatives such as:
- establishing new divisions
- re-engineering entire departments
- systematizing workflows
- increasing intra-departmental teaming, and
- presenting trend-setting processes and products globally
TBO BUILDING BLOCK: Initially, it would seem odd to small business owners that any of these enterprise-level outcomes would be relevant to their organization, but Rita delivers these results to her TBO clients as she did to her corporate clients:
- product and system training
- organizational development
- change management
- project management
- job design
- and process improvement.
2000. We began coaching and consulting small business owners to help grow their businesses through marketing communication. Over a 7-year period, we worked with over 65 clients, each client having one or more of the following outcomes:
- increased revenues
- uptick in sales
- saved time and money by redirecting focus
- closed more business through improved conversion rates
- scaled client base
- focused on attracting ideal prospects
- maintained retention rates of customer/clients/membership
- expanded visibility and positive company image
- increased pricing through service clarification and revisiting value proposition
TBO BUILDING BLOCK: One of the tenets of True Business Ownership is to make more revenue through marketing and sales. Rita follows best practices for establishing a company’s position in the market place and then coaches owners and sales people on how to sell using that unique sales/value position. Those practices are now part of the True Business Ownership processes.
2007. Rita partnered with a marketing strategist and founded Spiral of Success (SOS) for Small Business Owners. As marketing experts, we did a good job finding prospects for our small business clients’ – too good! Our great marketing was causing capacity problems; our clients were not fulfilling orders and completing projects on time, in budget, or with the quality for which they were previously known. Since the clients had not planned to expand for success, they stopped marketing. Of course, we were not happy being on the same rollercoaster and decided to something about it! We closed down our clients’ rollercoaster rides. We continued to offer marketing, but with weekly business owner check-ins and coaching. We controlled the marketing efforts based on our clients’ capacity to handle the influx. The clients saw the value of these weekly business discussions and wanted more. Overnight we were creating business consulting and coaching services that would give our clients uninterrupted growth. For 10 years, we implemented business strategies, plans and tools while simultaneously coaching business owners and their managers. We were also growing – away from the partnership. Our passions were different and we knew we needed to pursue different careers.
TBO BUILDING BLOCK: During these 10 years, Rita conducted research on business environments, stages in a company’s growth and how to assess a business’s current state, and restructuring organizations – all research became the foundation of her TBO model.
2017. Rita relaunches Rita Coco Consulting as a True Business Ownership Coaching and Consulting firm. Today, she works with established business owners to give them the business they truly want, the significant growth they long to have, and the Freedom to Choose their relationship with their business so that they enjoy their work and their personal life. Side-by-side with a committed small business owner, we can:
