Definitions of True Business Ownership vary, but there is one common theme across consultants who use this term. Most are measuring how much time the owner spends being an owner, usually calculated by the ratio between time as an employee verses time spent as a business owner. The goal of any True Business Ownership transformation is to move the business owner out of employee responsibilities and into ownership responsibilities. That means thinking of delegation and planning for it. Most owners have spent so much time owning a job (aka working as an employee) that they have little knowledge and skill on how to lead their company as its business owner. In True Business Ownership circles, you may hear the question: Do you own a job or do you own a company? The question can be a wakeup call to owners who have been struggling to get to the next level in their business but seem stuck because they can’t escape their employee role.

Delegation is key to transforming your business and your relationship to it. Most owners will fail to delegate because there is a process to delegation.
