“Rita, I see a huge value in your True Business Owner coaching. My business would ‘dead-end’ without your guidance. I would not be sure what to do next with the business; I’d be only guessing. With your coaching, there is no side-tracking. There are actions I would have avoided doing as an owner because I do not like to do them – like finances and sales. Now I want to look at all my business functions. I see the importance now, know that I need to know, and am ready to understand what they mean to my business. We have taken my business from seasonal to year-round. I am doing less as an employee, more as a business owner, and making more money! With all the day to day stuff, I didn’t have time for the big picture stuff. I didn’t know how to be a business owner. I know how to deliver my services but I didn’t know how to be a True Business Owner. Picking my brain with you, I know how to move forward, what’s the next important thing to do. ”

What is True Business Ownership (TBO)?
A Mindset embraced by business owners based on the
Freedom to Choose
the relationship they want with their business.
As a business owner, you relate to your business in several ways:
- the roles you play in your business,
- the responsibilities you choose to own,
- the time you spend at your business, and
- whether you decide to spend time as an employee, a manager and/or an owner in your own business.
If you want to alter any of these ‘relationships’, you will find it hard to do. For instance, try to stop working weekends so that you can finally have time for yourself, your family and your friends, when you have been working weekends for the last 5 years. Or, decide to take two hours each week to scout for more business opportunities. Easier said than done.
Working with small business owners these last 18 years, it has become very clear to me that owners could have the freedom to choose the relationship they want with their business, but they don’t believe it is possible. Although they want to escape bearing the weight of their business on their shoulders, they carry most of the responsibility, accountability, decision-making, and challenges – way more than they should. They are the first to arrive at their business and the last to leave. A business owner does not think there is any other way to run the business other than to be THE accountable owner. That thinking limits the business owner’s ability to significantly grow.
Here is the good news – that limited thinking is only a mindset and mindsets can change, if they are challenged.
Not all business owners are ready to become True Business Owners. Those who are ready for TBO must first acknowledge that they are still employees in their business. Second, an owner must be eager to change his/her mindset in order to shed employee tasks and take on more ownership responsibilities. This mindset shift and transformation is what allows them to continue to reach the next level (and the next level after that!)
Why a True Business Ownership Mindset is Important
Owners can develop a mindset that allows them to sell more and make more by working less. By working less as an employee, you can have more freedom to have the company you really want. If business owners believed they could have the business they want, they would tackle these challenges with less angst.

Rita’s tip for thinking out-of-the-box about
True Business Ownership
I only have one tip to encourage business owners to embrace True Business Ownership as soon as they can and that is:
to establish Core Values for their company
Sounds pretty odd but hear me out. When you decide on the principles you want to live by as the owner of a company – and you do live by them – you will have begun to relate to your company in a positive way. You will also relate to everyone you and your company touches using the same value set. Those values should include how to care for yourself, employees and customers. It is the starting point of allowing everyone who comes in contact with your business to have a great relationship with it.
Think about that for a moment… and call us when you want to learn more!
